The rare breed meat company is owned and run by a fourth generation farmer Howard Blackwell who wanted to see the very best meat from rare and traditional breeds back on the consumers table. He is now joined by his son George who has experience in sales and the catering industry.
The Blackwell family have farmed in North Essex since the 1930s,Howard began rearing turkeys and geese in the early 1980s supplying butchers, so with these contacts then started rearing and fattening Gloucestershire Old Spots and Oxford Sandy and Blacks, this business quickly developed and The Rare Breed Meat Company was created in 1995 adding other premium brands such as Colne Valley and Salt marsh Lambs, Free Range Blythburgh pigs, Traditional breeds of Cattle, quality dry cured bacon and hams, free range ducks, venison and game when in season.
We fervently believe in the quality of the meat produced from these animals that have been reared in totally free range environments and fed only on natural foods that are free of any form of growth promoters etc. Many of the producers are neighbouring farmers and well known to us.
Because we rear or source all of the produce ourselves we can offer complete traceability for our customers to ensure that the highest levels of animal welfare are adhered to.
All of our produce is butchered at our new state of the art cutting plant by our own team of butchers. We now have 3 vans delivering inside the M25 up to Cambridge across to Ipswich and down to Southend and 7 experienced butchers creating any cuts required and producing our own sausages and burgers.
Our wholesale operation is a renowned supplier to such establishments as Harrods, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Jimmy's Farm and many of the Q guild and traditional butchers in London and also many quality restaurants and bistro pubs.

We offer the very best Beef, Pork, and Lamb and in addition we offer seasonal produce such as Game, Turkeys and Geese.
